VOLUNTEER PLACEMENTS

The following is a list of available volunteer placements at VEG. In addition, if you are interested in conducting research, we can help you organize and plan your project.

Solar panels and electricity engineering

The goal of the Lady Volta Green Tech Academy is to train disadvantaged young people, mainly women, to become competent, skilled and professional electricians and solar engineers. At the end of the program, students will be ready to start a successful career in electrical repairs and installation, or solar power engineering. Students will also acquire all the necessary business, management and professional skills to manage a successful business and develop « life skills » such as autonomy, professionalism and responsibility. You give a course on any of the above topics or teach in our electricity workshop. Retirees are welcome!

Sexual Reproductive & Maternal Health Volunteer

VEG’s Sexual Reproductive and Maternal Health (SRMH) program provides comprehensive, tailor-made, and age-appropriate training programs with a particular focus on reproductive rights, anatomy, teenage pregnancy, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), menstrual health management, family planning, and contraceptives, and dangers of unsafe abortion. Other topic areas include healthy relationships, communication skills, and responsible sexual behavior among others. VEG’s SRMH program with its partner SVAfrica, aims to empower adolescents/women to identify and understand their reproductive health rights and make informed health decisions that will promote their well-being and ensure that they have control over their reproductive choices and access to appropriate healthcare services. SRMH programs target schools and communities including youth-friendly activities, community outreach and engagement, counseling, and referrals.

Teaching at the LVGTA center:

Conducting classes at the LVGTA center involves educating pre-adolescents about the transformations in their bodies and minds. Additionally, providing apprentices such as seamstresses with insights into contraception, menstruation, and relationships, including an introduction to LGBTQ issues.

Teaching in communities:

Engagement in community education is integral to every project conducted by VEG and its partner, SVAfrica. Within communities benefiting from LVGTA’s renewable energy initiatives, we conduct training sessions, particularly focusing on preventive maintenance for women. Our workshops address various aspects of Reproductive, Sexual, Maternal, and Child Health (RSMH), covering topics such as pregnancy, alongside crucial discussions on domestic violence and women’s rights. It is noteworthy that men actively participate, attending sessions to gain insights on becoming more responsible brothers, husbands, and fathers.

Be Creative!

We also employ approaches such as football, photography, drama/role plays, and visual arts to disseminate up-to-date sexual, reproductive and maternal health information to our targets.

Thank you for considering VEG-LVGTA for your volunteer journey. Together, we can create a positive change and leave a lasting legacy in Ghana.
