SEXUAL, REPRODUCTIVE AND MATERNAL HEALTH

  • Context

The lack of sexual, reproductive and maternal health (SRMH) services in sub-Saharan Africa has led to high rates of unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions. Myths and misconceptions amongst youth regarding SRMH are prevalent, and information seeking behavior is unclear. Investigating these topics aids service providers in tailoring SRMH programs for youth.
After conducting evidence-based research since 2003, Village Exchange Ghana opened officially the Lady Volta Resource Centre on the 13th of November 2006, in Ho, Volta Region. The center provides counselling and information on issues related to reproductive, sexual and maternal health.
  • Proposition

VEG believes that encouraging good and responsible reproductive, sexual and maternal health is an important way of empowering women, improving gender relations and ensuring that women have equal access to education and professional opportunities.

Project

This is why the center implements outreach programs in surrounding villages within Ho Municipality. Mobilisation programs are carried out in all secondary schools in Ho, and out of school youth, apprentices, church youth groups and NGOs working with youth are also targeted.
