Abstract These five women from the Adaklu Xelekpe community have formed a group in order to access VEI loans. Their community is located 20km away from Ho, o difficult road. Like many women in their village, the Lorlornyo women are involved in palm oil production. Through a loan, they hope to increase their purchasing power, thereby reducing costs as well as boosting local businesses related to palm oil production. Abstract Initially, the Rejoyce group constituted of 3 friends who chose to consolidate their efforts in running a cloth-selling business. Their income had significantly increased after receving a first loan. One of their group members has moved away from Ho. The two remaining members have decided to change their business to selling foodstuffs in a stall in Ho market. They’ve explained that sales for cloth is seasonal – around festivities – while sales of foodstuffs is year round and therefore will offer more regular profits.
